COVID-19 Reporting Guidance

Meeting COVID-19 Test Reporting Obligations

The Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE) has been working steadfastly to keep pace with the evolving requirements set forth by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) regarding the lab reporting requirements for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). KHIE is designated to facilitate this reporting.

If you are not currently electronically connected to KHIE, you must manually report these lab results through KHIE's Direct Data Entry (DDE) feature located in the ePartnerViewer.   Additionally, KDPH requests organizations to onboard with DDE to manually enter results in the interim period while ELR onboarding is in progress.

Latest Reporting Requirements from KDPH

In accordance with 902 KAR 2:020E (Emergency Order), reporting of negative SARS-CoV-2 antigen test results is not required.  KDPH requests that all organizations continue to report in the manner that is consistent with state regulation.

Meeting COVID-19 Test Reporting Obligations of the KDPH

If you result any type of COVID-19 test, you are required to report the results to the KDPH.

KDPH requires adherence to the following guidelines for all reporting:

You are required to report all positive Antigen and PCR results within 24 hours of resulting.

If you collect the specimen onsite, you are required to submit the case report under the following conditions:
  • COVID-19 related mortality
  • Admission to an inpatient care facility
  • A lab result report was not submitted for the positive diagnosis
You are required to report all negative PCR results within 7 days of resulting.  (KDPH encourages reporting within 24 hours, as this impacts the positivity rate.)
