2022 Kentucky Health Information Exchange Grant offered by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicaid

In collaboration with the Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE), Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicaid (Anthem) is offering participating Anthem providers the opportunity to apply for a grant to help offset the costs associated with connecting to KHIE.

Applicants must be located in the state of Kentucky, have an active Kentucky Medicaid ID number, have a signed Participation Agreement with KHIE, and be a participating provider with Anthem. If approved, providers may be awarded up to $5,000, and hospital may be awarded up to $10,000. 

Grants will be awarded on a first come first serve basis until all grant funds up to $200,000 are depleted. Incomplete applications will not be considered, and only one grant will be awarded per tax identification number and/or business entity.

If interested, please complete the 2022 Kentucky Health Information Exchange Grant application        in its entirety, attach a completed W9 Form, and email both documents to providerexperiencekyprojects@anthem.com with Anthem 2022 KHIE Grant Application in the subject line. Applications will be accepted through December 30, 2022.

​Three different incentive opportunities were available and have now closed.  Qualified KHIE Participants were awarded incentive dollars to​ mitigate the many challenges and barriers associated with the electronic exchange of health information.  We look forward to working with these Participants to increase public health reporting efforts.

In collaboration with the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH), Kentucky Department for Medicaid Services (DMS) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS), the Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE) offered incentive opportunities to help healthcare organizations mitigate the many challenges and barriers associated with the electronic exchange of health information.                                                   

Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) Incentive Program--closed

The Electronic Laboratory Reporting Program was a success!  KHIE awarded all available funds.  Specific details will be provided soon.  

Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) Incentive Program

KHIE is offering eligible healthcare facilities the opportunity to apply for a $20,000 incentive to offset the vendor fees associated with improving or establishing an Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) interface to the health information exchange (HIE). 

Applicants are required to be a lab, including labs within hospitals and healthcare facilities, located and/or providing services in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  Labs are also required to provide onsite testing and resulting.  Funds may be used to offset technology upgrades or modifications required to establish an interface or to mitigate technical barriers directly related to electronic laboratory reporting.  This program is in effect until the deadline noted below or until the funds have been depleted.​

Electronic Case Reporting Incentive Program

KHIE is offering eligible healthcare facilities the opportunity to apply for a $10,000 incentive to offset the vendor fees associated with the implementation of technology to establish an Electronic Case Reporting (eCR) interface to the HIE. 

Applicants are required to be a hospital or healthcare clinic, with an ordering facility, located and/or providing services in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  Funds may be used to mitigate technical barriers or offset the costs directly associated with the implementation of the technology required to facilitate eCR. This program is in effect until the deadline noted below or until the funds have been depleted.

The Provider Assistance Program was a success!  KHIE awarded all available funds.  ​

Provider Assistance Program

The Provider Assistance Program offered a general incentive opportunity intended to be utilized to help mitigate the many challenges associated with interoperability.  KHIE offered eligible hospitals the opportunity to apply for a $15,000 incentive and eligible providers & pharmacies the opportunity to apply for an $8,000 incentive.  

Applicants were required to be an eligible hospital, healthcare facility, or pharmacy located and/or providing services in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  The incentive dollars were intended to offset the cost to connect and utilize any KHIE service.
