Currently, provider eligibility for the Kentucky Medicaid EHR Incentive Program is based on provider type and specialty. Several provider types and hospitals are approved to enroll in the Kentucky Medicaid EHR Incentive Program.
Eligible Providers
- Physicians (MD, DO)
- Physician assistant – eligible when working at a federally qualified health center (FQHC) or rural health clinic (RHC) that is PA led in the following instances:
o The PA is the primary provider in a clinic (e.g., part-time physician and full-time PA in the clinic)
o The PA is the clinical or medical director at a clinical site of the practice
o The PA is the owner of the RHC
- Pediatrician (special eligibility and payment rules apply)
- Nurse practitioner
- Certified nurse midwife
- Dentist
To be eligible for EHR incentive payments, a provider must meet certain Medicaid patient volume requirements or practice predominantly in an FQHC or RHC where 30 percent of the patient volume is derived from needy individuals. - Acute Care Hospital
- Children’s Hospital
- CAH
Additional requirements must be met to qualify for the incentive program for both providers and hospitals. Those requirements and other important information for hospitals can be found at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services EHR Incentive Program website.
Providers and hospitals must register to participate in the incentive program. Registration began Jan. 3, 2011, and is available online at the CMS website.
